Take Care of the Mouth

The health of the mouth is an excellent measure of the health of your pet.  Periodontal disease is the result of bacterial growth on teeth.  The result is infection of gums and soft tissues in the mouth.  These bacteria get into the bloodstream and can affect all organs of the body.

Cleaning your pet's teeth is accomplished while under general anesthsia.  The health risks of an infected mouth are greater than the health risks associated with this anesthetic.

For more information on the procedure and the measures taken to insure your pet pet's continued good health, ask to speak with one of our staff veterinarians.

Does your pet have "bad breath".  When you look at the surface of the teeth, are they white? or "golden-brown"?  Tartar (calculus) is a dark color.  It will invade beneath the gumline, making the gums bright red with inflammation.

Many pet owners brush the plaque off the surface of the teeth with our enzymatic pet toothpaste.  Poultry flavored and suitable for swallowing, rubbing the surface of your pet's teeth will remove the plaque in which bacteria live.

We also have chew-products that help to keep the teeth and gums healthy.  Oral rinses can reduce bacterial populations in the mouth.  Remember, plaque and subsequent tartar accumulation is the result of bacterial action.

Also, ask about the availability and appropriateness of dental products on the market.  Go to our "Home Delivery" page for product availability.
