Walter Britt Schaffeld, D.V.M.

Walter Britt Schaffeld, D.V.M. graduated from Auburn's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980.  After working for 5 years in small animal practices in Washington D.C. and Chattanooga, Britt opened The Animal Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe.  Immediately he sought and obtained certification for his animal hospital by the American Animal Hospital Association.  While keeping quality standards high he has kept the needs of the pets of North Georgia paramount.

Dr. Schaffeld has served as President for a number of organizations including the Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care, Friends of the Zoo, the Emergency Animal Clinic of Chattanooga, and the Fort Oglethorpe Kiwanis Club.  He has also served on the board of directors at the Margaret Brock Pet Adoption Center in Chattanooga.

One daughter a distinguished graduate of the Goizuetta School of Business at Emory University, another at the University of Georgia, and a son in high school at McCallie, Britt knows the value of education and hopes pet owners will try to learn more about the care of their pets.  He supervises two dogs and three cats at home.  Carol, his wife, also graduated from Auburn University and enjoys community involvement in many areas.  Once a teacher of French at the Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences, she now owns and operates Peaches Fine Millinery, a "hat store" for ladies in Chickamauga.  They have been married 25 years.

Swimming for exercise, Dr. Schaffeld recently had his entire family certified as Open Water Scuba Divers and they are enjoying their new "family activity".  A 1933 Epiphone Broadway archtop guitar is Britt's favorite of 7 guitars and finds playing music "a great way to relax, unwind, and renew my muse".
